PREPARATION

How to prepare a swimming pool for painting

Swimming pools in Australia are hugely popular and accordingly require excellent maintenance to keep them looking good and to remain in a pristine and healthy condition. If you are doing the work yourself then the below guide may be useful to you. The following steps should to be taken into consideration in relation to our SUPERIOR POOL PAINT HIGH BUILD EPOXY.

APPLICATION RECOMMENDATIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS.

Do not apply our epoxy over any existing chlorinated rubber or acrylic coating. These 2 coating types must be removed completely by abrasive blasting or high pressure waterblasting.

Any remaining gloss on the existing epoxy or fibreglass surface should be sanded with 40 grit sand paper to ensure good adhesion of our epoxy.

Preparation of the pool should be a scrub using an appropriate cleaner degreasing solution followed by a pressure wash with clean water, then given sufficent time to dry before coating.

Ensure rain is not imminent on the day of application. High moisture levels will flatten the finish of the cured coating. When applying the second coat, make sure that there is no dew or moisture on the coating as it will prevent adhesion.

When mixing, make sure that all the solids are dispersed off the bottom of both the base and hardener, prior to combining the two portions for mixing. A paint mixing bit on a drill is recommended at a minimum to ensure correct mixing.

.

Do not thin the material, this reduces the applied solids and in turn the dry film thickness.

07

The mix ratio is 1:1 base colour to hardener. After mixing together thoroughly, allow the epoxy to stand for a 30 minute induction period before application. Pot-life minimum 2 hours after induction period, ample time for application.

08

Apply Superior Pool Paint epoxy at a rate of approximately 4.5sqm per litre to achieve 35sqm per kit per coat, 2 coats minimum recommended.

09

When the coating has been applied, remove any masking tape asap. Failure to do this may result in the epoxy hardening to such an extent that the tape will require cutting to remove.

10

After coating has been completed the pool must remain empty for a minimum of 5-7 days before filling with water and chemicals being added. Failure to adhere to this may result in the colour becoming lighter.

11

Observe maximum immersed water temperature of 52°C, and the pH of the water between 3-13.
